There is no official rate: that reflects the model, not secrecy
Start with what you won’t find here: an exact per-stream rate published by Yandex itself. Yandex Music, a major Russian streaming service, does not publish a calculation formula, percentages or specific per-play amounts in its help pages, including the rights holder section. It confirms that legal services pay rights holders for content use and that its entire catalog is licensed.
Beyond that, estimates come from independent analysis and artists’ own experience. Treat them as calculated results, not published rates.
The pro-rata model: why rates change monthly
In line with general industry practice, Yandex Music is understood to use a pooled model like most large streaming services. Subscription and advertising income for a period is pooled, then allocated to rights holders in proportion to their streams. Your allocation is your streams divided by all platform streams, multiplied by the payout pool.
The key consequence: no per-stream price is fixed. Monthly revenue changes, and the total amount of listening also affects each rights holder’s effective rate.
Find a useful estimate in your own report
Another artist’s per-stream rate won’t transfer to your catalog: period, territory, access type, currency and contract terms differ. Take the Yandex Music line for a finalized period and divide pre-fee earnings by counted uses. That gives you the effective rate for that specific report.
- Usage period, not payout date
- Listener territory
- Currency and conversion rate
- Amount before fees
- Number of counted uses
- Your contractual royalty share
Use several periods and a range of outcomes for forecasts. That prevents one spike, adjustment or audience shift from becoming a false income promise.
Which platforms matter to your catalog?
There is no universal split between services. Yandex Music and VK Music can be important channels for Russian-language catalogs, but check each platform’s real share in your own reports. Genre, territory and your existing audience affect the picture more than general market estimates.
How much does the distributor keep?
Compare business models carefully. Free aggregators often retain 15–30% of payouts for as long as the release remains with them. Subscription services set a royalty share—80–95% with creator—but charge recurring fees. A subscription can be more economical over time for an active artist.
Your distributor’s fee directly affects what reaches your account. With creator, you keep 80% on Start (₽549/month) through to 95% on Label (₽1,290/month). At meaningful streaming volumes, the gap between 80% and 95% becomes a substantial monthly difference, especially for artists with active multi-release catalogs rather than one single.
When the money actually arrives
This is not immediate either. A platform closes a reporting period, usually a month, and sends its report and funds to the distributor roughly a month later. Earnings are then credited to the artist. Across the market, a stream typically takes 2–3 months to become money in the artist’s hands, and in some cases up to six months due to artificial-streaming checks or accounting delays. creator pays royalties quarterly after receiving platform reports.
How to increase Yandex Music earnings
Your main starting point. Look at listener geography and develop services where real engagement is already appearing. On Yandex Music, that means a complete profile, timely pitching and genuine traffic without artificial streams.
- Engagement quality matters more than random traffic. Yandex doesn’t disclose My Vibe’s signal weights. Don’t expect a result from one metric alone; focus on listeners who genuinely connect with the track.
- Consistency. A catalog creates more entry points and data to analyze, but release count alone does not guarantee multiplied recommendations or earnings.
- Playlist pitching. This is a separate promotion route, often misunderstood. See our guide to Yandex Music editorial playlist pitching.
- A presence across platforms. Even if Yandex and VK bring most earnings, other platforms still need attention and can bring income in foreign currencies. With creator, one release goes to 70+ platforms without additional delivery fees.
Bringing it together
Yandex Music doesn’t publish a fixed per-stream rate. A reliable forecast starts with your finalized reports, separated by period, territory and contract terms. Release through creator, then compare actual earnings by platform.
